A Family Tradition: The Sunflower Competition

August 14, 2011 at 12:30 pm | Posted in Summer 2011 | Leave a comment

Since I can remember my dad always planted sunflowers at my grandma’s house.  We would care for them until they got big and then dig them out and take them to the country fair.  We always hoped we would win the blue ribbon!  I can remember entering not only the tallest but the largest flower.  When we started high school the tradition faded but as soon as my dad’s grandkids were born he was back at it.

There are many tricks my dad has researched through the years and I have to say it’s pretty funny to hear him talk about his strategy.  Good Times!

Thought it was cute to see this shirt in 2009 vs 2011:-)
